Here’s an offering of interesting stuff we found over the weekend…
Mayfield Makes an Entrance: ESPN’s Mark Schlabach includes our freshman phenom in his weekly “On the Mark” column highlighting the best and worst debuts of the 2013 season. Seeing Mayfield’s name listed with the likes of Tajh Boyd and Derek Carr is pretty exciting.
Big Man on Campus: Jake Trotter, the new Big 12 blogger for ESPN.com, awards Mayfield the distinction of Big (Offensive) man on Campus for week one. Seems like the world wide leader in sports really digs the Mayfield story.
In Good Company: Bleacher Report featured columnist Rob Goldberg thinks Mayfield should keep the starting job for the season, citing comparisons to Colt McCoy and Case Keenum. Goldberg also points out something I hadn’t thought of yet: with 60 pass attempts in his first career game, Mayfield now has more college experience than redshirt sophomore Michael Brewer (48 attempts).
Projecting the Post-Season: Big 12 blogger Brandon Chatmon posted his official bowl predictions after week one action, placing Texas Tech in the Meineke Car Care Bowl once again.
Red Raider’s Fresh Threads: Under Amour stepped up their game recently. Last week they introduced a new method of unveiling uniforms for their college football programs. Just before the start of the game Friday, UA showed us what the Red Raiders would wear in their contest with SMU, and it looks like they’ll do it again this week.
