Texas Tech vs. Iowa State: Bold Predictions Rewind

With Saturday’s win over Iowa State, Texas Tech moves to 6-0 (3-0) on the year and earns bowl eligibility for the 20th time in the last 21 seasons. It wasn’t always pretty, but a W is a W and the team showed real fight and tenacity, pushing through adversity to secure a Big 12 win at home.

Here’s a look back at our Bold Predictions from Friday:

Homecoming weekend, undefeated football team, expanded student section. This will be a sold out game, yes or no?

Robert: Not quite. I think the student section eventually fills up, but we’ll also see some empty corners in the upper decks.

Shelby: No. 11 am game…students are going to sleep late or be hungover from Friday night activities.

Austin: Yes.

Not even close. The student section eventually filled, but gaping holes at the corners of the East concourse remained unoccupied, leaving one to wonder what else this Red Raider team has to prove to their fans before they start showing up.

So far, Tech’s defense allowed a 100-yard rusher just once this season. Over/Under, 100 yards for Iowa State’s Aaron Wimberly?

Robert: Over, but only because of one or two big runs. This defense has already given up a couple of those (49-yard TD run by Texas State).

Shelby: Under. The defense has been on fire.

Austin: Under.

Wimberly was on pace to record a third consecutive 100-yard performance before sitting out most of the second half with injury. Only 65 yards for the Cyclones back.

Robert: 0, Shelby: 1, Austin: 1

With three colors to choose from (black, white and gray), what uniform combination do the Red Raiders suit up in on Saturday?

Robert: I’ll go black helmets, gray jerseys and white pants.

Shelby: I’m saying gray pants, black jerseys, gray helmet.

Austin: Black hat, black top, white bottoms.

All off. The good guys took the field murdered out (all black).

Robert: 0, Shelby: 0, Austin: 0

Ryan Bustin is four field-goals away from his own single-season record (17). Will he tie, break, or come up just short of that record in this game?

Robert: Good grief I hope not, but these last two weeks he’s set and tied a personal best with four. I think he does it again and ties his season high, 17.

Shelby: He comes up short.

Austin: No he does not break it this weekend. Just short.

Bustin’s only field-goal attempt missed wide right.

Robert: 0, Shelby: 1, Austin: 1

Final score?

Robert: It doesn’t match up with my field-goal prediction, but I’m going to stick with my wildly conservative pick from last week in the hopes that Kliff and Co. blow it out of the water once again. 28-17, good guys.

Shelby: 35-24 Tech.

Austin: 31-21 Tech.

Reader – Katy: 35-31 Tech.

We all correctly picked Tech, and our reader participant ended up with the closest score prediction. Congrats!

Robert: 1, Shelby: 1, Austin: 1, Katy: 1.5

Final tally

Robert: 2/5, Shelby: 4/5, Austin: 3/5, Reader: 1.5/1
