Kliff’s first season is in the books after a beautiful win over a ranked Arizona State team in the Holiday Bowl. The players played their most solid game of the season yesterday. So let’s take a look at a few guys I thought really stood out.
Offensive Player of the Game: Jace Amaro. Amaro went out in style yesterday, and I’m not just talking about the cool uniform combination he wore. The NFL-bound tight end had eight catches for 112 yards and was a force to be reckoned with on offense.
Defensive Player of the Game: Will Smith. Smith had 10 solo tackles and assisted with four more. Two of his tackles were for a loss. The senior’s last game was on par with the rest of his fantastic season, and what better way to go out than in his home state.
Freshman of the Game: Davis Webb. It’s been a while since Webb has been featured for anything, but the true freshman earned it. He played like a seasoned veteran, passing for 403 yards and completing 28 of 41 passes. The best part? No interceptions. Runner up: Reginald Davis. Davis had a beautiful 90 yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the third quarter.
We’re going to miss the seniors. Jace Amaro and Will Smith have been huge impact players all season, just like the rest of the players who exhausted eligibility after the bowl game. But boy did they go out in spectacular fashion. The youth movement is real in Lubbock, Texas. It’s time to see what the freshman like Davis Webb and Reginald Davis can do. Wreck ‘em Tech!
