It’s hard to recall the last time a Texas Tech commit generated as much buzz before National Signing Day as ESPN 300 recruit Nigel Bethel II has. That is what happens when a physical, shutdown corner back commits to a school that desperately needs help defensively to match their high-flying offense. Hoping to cement his name alongside other Red Raider defensive greats such as Zach Thomas, Jamar Wall, and Dwayne Slay, we caught up with Nigel to get his thoughts on Red Raider football, Lubbock, and his downtime.

What is your number 1 memory of playing high school ball?

My number one memory of high school isn’t a good memory but in the state championship game my sophomore year we had a 13 point lead in the 4th quarter. Jacksonville Bolles, the team we played scored to make it a 6 point game and so they kicked the ball off to me and with 2 mins left in the game I dropped the ball and they picked it up and scored to win the game. I was hurt, but that play made stronger as a football player.
