It’s always hard, as the number three school in Texas, for Texas Tech to get meaningful attention on the national stage.
However, with three alumni playing in Super Bowl XLVIII, combined with well-timed and well-placed outdoor advertising, this week belongs to the Scarlet and Black.
First, Red Raider legend and Broncos slot receiver Wes Welker, speaking at Super Bowl Media Day on Tuesday, gave a major shout out to his alma mater.
“Obviously, if you want to go to the Super Bowl, you should go to Texas Tech. All those top recruits out there, obviously it goes hand in hand.”
Current teammate and fellow Red Raider Manny Ramirez, who plays center on the Broncos offensive line, echoed Welker’s comments, pointing specifically to the offensive system.
“It’s been a true blessing this year being able to play with some college teammates. It’s been good especially to come to a team where I look at it as very similar to our Tech offense.”
Then, almost as if they drew it up this way, Texas Tech’s ad space in Times Square drew massive attention on various social media.

Not a bad couple days for Texas Tech PR and their #IAmARedRaider campaign. You can’t buy that kind of exposure for your school and its football program. Now let’s see if it pays off on signing day next week.
