Texas Tech Loses First Big 12 Series

No. 23 ranked Texas Tech lost its first series of the season this weekend. Unfortunately, it was the first Big 12 series of the year. The Red Raiders lost the first two match-ups against the Baylor Bears, to finish the last one with a win.

The first game ended in a 1-0 shutout in favor of the Bears. RHP Dominic Moreno started at pitcher, striking out nine batters. Left-hander Johnny Drodz relieved Moreno. Third baseman Jake Barrios was the only Tech player with multiple hits.

The second game didn’t end much better for Tech, ending the game with a 2-1 loss. Left-hander Chris Sadberry was the starting pitcher, with RHP Ryan Mosely also getting his turn.

The Red Raiders finally turned things around in the series finale, winning 7-1. Catcher Hunter Redman had a three-run double. LHP Cameron Smith had the first start of his career. He took a no decision, with RHP Corey Taylor taking over. The Red Raiders scored seven runs in the eighth inning.

Upon the conclusion of this series, the Raiders sit 16-5 overall for the season, and 1-2 in Big 12 play. Texas Tech will take on Stephen F. Austin next. The two-game series will be played in Lubbock on Tuesday, March 18, at 6:30 p.m., and Wednesday, March 19, at 2 p.m.
