Late Friday night, racing in his first outdoor 5,000-meter event for Texas Tech, Kithuka shattered the 7-year-old school record and ascended to the top of the NCAA Division I performance chart.
It took just 1,600-meters before Kithuka separated himself from the field, eventually cruising across the finish line with a school record and NCAA-leading time of 13 minutes 26.98 seconds. The performance broke the previous record mark by 14 seconds.

No. 24 Texas Tech earned a series sweep over Prairie View A&M with a 13-0 two-hit combined shutout in a seven-inning run-rule series finale on Saturday afternoon at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park while it also marked the 1,000th all-time home win for the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech (32-11) held Prairie View A&M (15-21) scoreless for the final 18 innings of the series while posting back-to-back shutouts – a first for Tech this season. The Red Raiders also recorded consecutive series sweeps for the first time since 2002.
