Despite accounting for nearly 3,500 yards of offense and setting a since-tied NCAA record for career punt return TDs, the 5-foot-9 Welker was deemed too small to be an effective NFL wide receiver.
Concerns that he silenced by becoming a solid target in three seasons with the Miami Dolphins. Since a 2007 offseason trade to the New England Patriots, Welker has been a star, making the Pro Bowl five times and leading the NFL in receptions three times while setting a league record for most seasons with 100 or more catches (five).
And he’s far from finished with the Denver Broncos.

Analysis: “Did I reach for my quarterback here? You could make the argument, especially if you’re a Trevor Knight lover. But Webb is precisely the kind of quarterback I wanted to run my offense. He has a ton of poise and confidence for a sophomore.” — Olson

“I have enjoyed very much my tenure here at Tech and I am confident the administration here will find a coach that will continue the winning tradition my staff and I have been able to establish,” Hays said in a press release. “I am very thankful to have coached all the great student-athletes that have been in our program the last five years as well as my awesome staff. I wish the very best to all the coaches in the department and I am thankful to have been a part of it all.”
Hays led the program to five straight 30-win seasons, joining Oklahoma and Texas as the only teams to do so in the Big 12.
