Former Texas Tech women’s golf standout Kim Kaufman became the first Red Raider to compete in the women’s British Open on Friday.
Former Texas Tech women’s golfer Kim Kaufmancompleted her first round of the Ricoh Women’s British Open on Thursday at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, United Kingdom and etched her name in the history books at Texas Tech.
Kaufman becomes the first Lady Raider to ever qualify and compete in the Women’s British Open.
The two-time All-American is in a tie for 98th after a 6-over par 78 on the first day. Kaufman posted two birdies, eight bogeys and eight pars in tough conditions on Thursday. The Royal Birkdale course is playing at 6,458 yards and at a 72-par.
She will need to stay around 6-over par through her second round if she hopes to make the cut for the weekend.
Kaufman has already bagged a second win on the Symetra Tour earlier this year and a top-five finish on the LPGA Tour at the North Texas LPGA Shootout in May, securing a spot on the LPGA Tour the rest of the 2014 season.
