Today we continue our series looking at every matchup for Texas Tech football this season and predict the outcome.

Week 5: Texas Tech at Kansas State (Manhattan, Kan.)

Favorite: Kansas St.

Storyline: The Wildcats absolutely rolled the Red Raider defense in Lubbock last year, and it figures to be more of the same this season. Kansas St. returns phenom wideout Tyler Lockett and quarterback Jake Waters, who led his team to a dominate 31-14 bowl victory over Michigan, as well as four other starters on offense. The defense, however, merely brings back four starters from a year ago (including All-Big 12 defensive end Ryan Mueller), so expect this one to be a shootout.

MVP: Tyler Lockett has too much speed and puts on a clinic against Tech’s inexperienced secondary, finding his way to the endzone at least twice.

Score: Although Davis Webb and the Red Raider offense is far more competitive against a young Kansas St. defense, this one finally swings the Wildcats’ way in the fourth and Tech suffers their first defeat. Final: Kansas St. 48, Texas Tech 40.

Record: 4-1 (1-1)
