Predicting Texas Tech’s win-loss record is hard enough, but trying to pin down the team’s bowl matchup at the end of the year is nearly impossible.
Not only does your prediction for Tech’s Big 12 finish need to be spot on, but you have to correctly pick which will end up on the other sideline as well. Not an easy task, but doable with the help of the all-mightly internet.
Here’s how the biggest sports sites across the web are projecting Texas Tech’s bowl trip.
ESPN: Liberty Bowl vs Ole Miss (Schlabach), Texas Bowl vs Texas A&M (McMurphy)
Couple of great matchups with SEC teams here and Tech has a bone to pick with both. A&M hasn’t been available since they fled the Big 12 and Ole Miss beat the Red Raiders in the 2008 Cotton Bowl. The Liberty Bowl is in line to select the 5th-place Big 12 team and the Texas Bowl will take the 4th-place team.
NFL College Football 24/7: Texas Bowl vs Texas A&M
Athlon Sports: Cactus Bowl vs Washington State
This game features the best collection of storylines in the postseason. Former Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach, and one of the most brilliant offensive minds in the game, going up against his first record-breaking quarterback, Kliff Kingsbury. The Cactus Bowl is not an automatic tie-in for the Big 12.
CBS Sports: Independence Bowl vs Miami (FL)
Before switching his pledge to Texas Tech, blue-chip defensive back Nigel Bethel II was committed to play for the Canes in his native Miami, Fla. The Independence Bowl is also not a an automatic tie-in.
Phil Steele: Texas Bowl vs Texas A&M
Sporting News: Heart of Dallas Bowl vs Northwestern
Been there, seen it. Tech beat Northwestern in this game back in 2010, Tommy Tuberville’s first year. This bowl goes to the 7th-place Big 12 team.
College Sports Madness: Heart of Dallas Bowl vs Rice
Wouldn’t be much of a game to watch but the matchup itself would be interesting from a ‘local flavor’ standpoint.
Our Pick: Russell Athletic Bowl vs Virginia Tech
We predicted Texas Tech to finish with nine wins and tie for 3rd place in the Big 12, which could put them in the Athletic Bowl vs the No. 2 ACC team. Virginia Tech has a great shot to win the ACC Coast Division and finish second to Florida State, putting the Hokies and former Red Raider quarterback Michael Brewer in the Athletic Bowl against Texas Tech.
