On September 16th, Thomas verbally committed to former Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach and the Washington State Cougars.   The Texas Tech legacy also received a scholarship offer from former Texas Tech defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeil who is now the head coach at East Carolina University.

Ty Thomas is the son of Bart Thomas who played safety at Texas Tech under Spyke Dykes. Ty shared the news of his offer from Texas Tech via his twitter account.

Thomas and his Cooper High School Pirates are currently 7-1 on the season as they prepare to host Abilene on Friday for the district title.

Ty Thomas is not the only Texas Tech legacy playing for the Cooper Pirates. Jarrett Doege, the younger brother of former Texas Tech quarterback Seth Doege is the Cooper quarterback and he is receiving interest from a number of Big 12 schools including Texas Tech and TCU.
