Can Texas Tech End Any Of These Streaks In 2018?

The Texas Tech football program is looking to return to prominence in the Big 12 this year after a decade of mediocrity and to do so, the Red Raiders must end some long streaks of futility.

2018 is the ten-year anniversary of the best season in Texas Tech football history.  In 2008, George W. Bush was still in the White House, Kliff Kingsbury was in his first season as an offensive quality control assistant with the Houston Cougars and Kirby Hocutt was in his first season as the athletic director at Miami.

Also, that year, Mike Leach, Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree led Texas Tech to the highest ranking in program history when Tech found itself at No. 2 in the polls in November.  But unfortunately, the golden age of Red Raider football did not last much longer.

Just one year later, Leach would be gone after a controversial firing and Tech would embark on a run of mediocrity that has lasted through two head coaches.  During that span, Tech has seen its standing in the Big 12 drop from being widely considered the third-best program in the league (behind OU and Texas) to the third-worst in 2018 (picked ahead of only Baylor and Kansas).

What’s been most frustrating for fans is that the Red Raiders have failed to make noticeable strides in several areas.  As a result, the program finds itself in the midst of a number of negative streaks that have lasted far too long.

If 2018 is to finally be the year that Kingsbury and the Red Raiders gain traction, they must find a way to put an end to a number of these troubling streaks.  Here are some streaks the Red Raiders will hopefully snap this season.
