12-team College Football Playoff bracket projection: Can Texas Tech secure a spot?

With a solid road win over the Kansas State Wildcats in Manhattan, Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders have now won two games in a row and are starting to build a bit of momentum once more as they prepare to head down the home stretch of the regular season.

Texas Tech was able to get Behren Morton back on the field and while he wasn’t perfect, the offense seemed to click. Add in the fact that the Red Raider defense is still very, very good and we’re talking about a really impressive Texas Tech team that has secured all of its eight wins by at least 23 points so far this season.

Which makes what is up ahead pretty interesting for McGuire and Tech.

This weekend’s game with the BYU Cougars is going to be huge for the Red Raiders (and also the Cougars as well as the Big 12 as a whole) as the winner of that game will be set up nicely to make it to the Big 12 Championship Game while also getting a solid, resume-building win to brag about for the College Football Playoff committee to look at.

And as the College Football Playoff committee gets set to reveal its first set of rankings on November 4, we should go ahead and make a bit of a prediction here. Let’s project what the College Football Playoff bracket might look like.

College Football Playoff bracket prediction: Where does Texas Tech sit after Week 10?

Here’s 12 teams in a loosely ranked order (I can certainly be persuaded to shuffle a few things here and there) for a College Football Playoff bracket.

  1. Ohio State Buckeyes
  2. Alabama Crimson Tide
  3. Texas Tech Red Raiders
  4. Virginia Cavaliers
  5. Indiana Hoosiers
  6. Texas A&M Aggies
  7. Oregon Ducks
  8. Georgia Bulldogs
  9. BYU Cougars
  10. Ole Miss Rebels
  11. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
  12. North Texas Mean Green

Ohio State and Indiana are the two most impressive teams in the country so far, but I think Ohio State will come out on top of the Big Ten conference championship game. The Crimson Tide has drastically turned things around and Alabama is on a hot streak. I suspect we see them beat Texas A&M in the SEC title game.

I think we’ll see Texas Tech beat BYU this weekend and then again in the Big 12 championship game, but I think both matchups will be close and the Cougars will get a shot at competing in the College Football Playoff.

Virginia is shockingly the only ACC team at 5-0 in conference play right now and that is not at all what I expected, but that offense is humming and they’re fun to watch. Oregon just has a ton of talent (the same applies to Georgia here) and I think they (and Ole Miss) will get in because of what their record will look like at the end of the season.

Notre Dame has bounced back in such an impressive way after getting off to a rough start and I’m thinking we get to see the Fighting Irish back in the College Football Playoff this season.

And then there’s the North Texas Mean Green, who have such a delightful and exciting offense and they just keep winning games right now. It’s impressive. Yes, there’s that one bad loss to South Florida, but North Texas has a great shot at redemption if the Mean Green can win out and claim that conference crown.
