As we get closer to the 2025 Texas Tech football season, we have more and more almost football things to talk about. That includes everything from preseason watch lists for awards to preseason all conference team lists. It’s almost football content, folks.
And now we’ve got a chance to talk about how a dozen Texas Tech players have made their way onto Phil Steele’s preseason All-Big 12 teams. If that seems like a lot of players, it is a lot of players. It’s 12 Red Raiders, to be specific.
That’s a really solid number for a list of your favorite team’s players to be recognized ahead of the season. Texas Tech football fans should definitely be thrilled to see that for the Red Raiders before the beginning of a season that could be a truly special one.

To celebrate the occasion, Texas Tech’s marketing team even put together this snazzy social media graphic for fans to enjoy and react to:

The Red Raiders had four players make Steele’s All-Big 12 first team and interestingly enough, three are on the defensive side of the ball:
- Howard Sampson - OL
- Lee Hunter - DT
- David Bailey - Edge
- Jacob Rodriguez - LB
On the All-Big 12 second team, the Red Raiders put another four players (and we got an even split of offense and defense here):
- Caleb Douglas - WR
- Davion Carter - OL
- Brice Pollock - CB
- Cole Wisniewski - S
Three Red Raiders earned spots on the third team:
- Quenten Joyner - RB
- Reggie Virgil Jr. - WR
- Skyler Gill-Howard - DT
And then we’ve got one on the fourth team:
- J’Koby Williams - KR
It feels really weird to not see Behren Morton on any of these teams and I’m also not used to seeing so many Texas Tech players from the defensive side of the ball get recognized for one of these lists. But hey, we live in interesting times.
