Injury Update: Kingsbury ‘Hopeful’ Webb Will Be Available vs OU

Kliff Kingsbury is the last coach to give definitive updates on the status of his key players currently recovering from injury, but we did get this little nugget of information on Davis Webb from the Big 12 conference call this morning.

It appears that both Davis Webb and Patrick Mahomes, who suffered moderate injuries against TCU and Texas in back-to-back weeks, forcing walk-on Vincent Testaverde Jr. into action, are recovering. The question remains, will they be ready to go at game time this weekend against the Sooners?

Webb, the team’s only non-freshman quarterback, went down against TCU with what looked like a fairly serious knee injury and was not available against Texas last week, though he was seen on the sideline using crutches. Before that he had started nine consecutive games and thrown for 2,539 yards and 24 touchdowns this year.

Other key players who are out or banged up include receivers Bradley Marquez, Jordan Davis and Jakeem Grant, defensive linemen Keland McElrath, Donte Philips and Demetrius Alston, and linebacker Sam Eguavoen. No word on any of them right now, but we’ll update this story as if we learn more.

UPDATE: during player interviews today, running back DeAndre Washington provided a little more information on Davis Webb’s status and Kliff Kingsbury had more to say about Patrick Mahomes.
