This talented tight end was part of the 1973 Texas Tech squad that went 11-1 including a victory in the Gator Bowl. What made Tillman’s 1973 season even more impressive is that he earned All-American honors despite playing with a torn meniscus.

That season, the 6’6” 231-pound tight end caught 26 passes for 428-yards and six scores. While these numbers have been deflated by the stats being put up in the modern era of spread-offenses, in 1973, Tillman’s production was unheard of.

After his time in Lubbock, Tillman played five seasons for the Miami Dolphins who drafted him in the second round of the 1974 NFL Draft. In 2014, the former Red Raider great was inducted into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame.
