While every Texas Tech football fan is eagerly looking forward to the upcoming season (which we hope will be a season of redemption), it is also interesting to look back upon the history of your school’s football team.
Nothing is worse than an ignorant fan; you know, like those who wear burnt orange t-shirts they got on sale a the local gas station and claim that as their school. In 2012, an obnoxious burnt orange fan sat in the row in front of me. During one of the timeouts, he was talking trash so I asked him to name one University of Texas head football coach other than Mack Brown. He couldn’t.

He also couldn’t tell me the name of the first Texas Longhorns’ running back to win the Heisman trophy. He know so little about his adopted school that he didn’t know the names of Darrell K. Royal and Earl Campbell — two of the most legendary names in the history of the sport.
It is highly unlikely that Tech fans over the age of 13 are as ignorant about our school’s history. Therefore, lets take a deeper look into the history of Texas Tech football. Some of the facts about the program might surprise you and might help you shut up an obnoxious t-shirt fan.
