Z Wide Receiver

Starter: Michael Crabtree

In the conversation of best players in program history, the top wide receiver in the all-time Texas Tech roster set every school receiving record despite playing only two seasons at Texas Tech. Michael Crabtree is obviously a Red Raider legend for his career achievements (231 receptions, 3,127 receiving yards and 41 touchdowns). He also won the Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s best wide receiver in 2007 and 2008.

But more than anything, Crabtree is chiseled into the lore of Texas Tech football for his game winning catch against Texas in 2008. His 29-yard touchdown with 7 seconds remaining is one of the most memorable plays in Big 12 history and set off pandemonium never before seen in Jones Stadium.

Selected by San Francisco as the No. 10 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Crabtree has over 5,000 yards and 31 touchdowns in his NFL career.

Backup: Lloyd Hill

Hill was the first Texas Tech receiver to eclipse 3,000 yards receiving despite playing in the early 1990’s when the Texas Tech offense revolved around star running back Bam Morris. A 1992 all-American, Hill caught 76 passes for 1,261 yards and 12 touchdowns. Hill still ranks 4th all time in career yardage his 1992 season is also the fourth best yardage wise in program history.
