Texas Tech senior quarterback Joe Barnes began the scoring with a seven-yard touchdown run to put Tech up 7-0. Barnes would then hit Lawrence Williams on a 79-yard touchdown pass to put Tech up 14-0.

Barnes would finish the game 8-11 passing for 154 yards two touchdown passes.   He also ran 16 times for 73 yards.

The 28-19 win capped what was the best season to date in Texas Tech football.
