No. 7 – @ Oklahoma 2011

To say that the Tommy Tuberville era was a failure at Texas Tech is an understatement but his greatest win is one of the most improbable in program history and the seventh greatest game in Texas Tech history.

Prior to the 2011 game against OU, a storm rolled through Norman, Oklahoma causing the game to be delayed for over 90 minutes. Little did anyone know that it would also symbolize what was in store for the No. 3 ranked Sooners.

Seth Doege passed for 441 yards and four touchdowns (3 to receiver Alex Torrez) to lead Texas Tech to a 41-38 victory. The win snapped Oklahoma’s 39-game home winning streak at Owen Field.

Losers of two straight games, Texas Tech was a 28-point underdog on the night making the upset on of the greatest in school history.

While the Tuberville tenure in Lubbock will be marred by memories of ugly losses and in fighting among the Texas Tech fan base, he did engineer one of the biggest upsets in Texas Tech football history on a stormy Oklahoma night in 2011.
