No. 27 – Nebraska 2004

On October 9th, 2004 Texas Tech recorded the program’s first victory over one of college football’s most storied programs, the Nebraska Cornhuskers.  The unbelievable manner in which the Red Raiders won makes this game the 27th greatest game in Texas Tech history.

Texas Tech quarterback Sonny Cumbie passed for 436 yards and five touchdowns at the Red Raiders beat Nebraska 70-10, the worst loss in the 114-year history of Cornhusker football.

The Red Raiders benefited from seven Nebraska turnovers, including five interceptions. Five of Texas Tech’s six second half possessions began in Cornhusker territory.

Texas Tech running back Taurean Henderson rushed for two touchdowns, becoming the first player to record a rushing touchdown against Nebraska in 26 quarters. He also passed for another score. The victory began a streak of four consecutive victories over Nebraska for Texas Tech making the Red Raiders the first program to ever accomplish such a feat against the Cornhuskers.
