The Texas Tech football team picked up a verbal commitment from 2018 wide receiver Corey Fulcher on Wednesday.

Kliff Kingsbury and the Texas Tech Red Raiders have added another offensive weapon to the 2018 recruiting class.  Corey Fulcher, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound wide receiver from Richardson Lake Highlands HS is the fourth prospect to join the 2018 Texas Tech recruiting class.

Not only is he the fourth commit to Texas Tech, he is the fourth wide receiver to commit to Kingsbury for 2018.  As of this time, Texas Tech has not added a verbal commitment from a player at any other position.

Fulcher adds depth a a position that is soon to be thin. The Red Raiders signed only one receiver in 2017’s class.  Furthermore, the team is set to lose five receivers to graduation after this year.  That, coupled with the departure of 2016 leading receiver Jonathan Giles , means that the 2018 class must be heavily slanted towards pass catchers.

Fulcher is the least heralded of the four 2018 receiver commits.  He is a bit raw and could be considered a long-term project.

"Playing for the 3-8 Lake Highlands Wildcats in 2017, Fulcher “carried the ball 106 times for 527 yards and seven touchdowns and caught 29 passes for 293 yards with no TDs. He also threw a 32-yard touchdown pass” according to the “Lubbock Avalanche Journal”."

He is not ranked by any of the major recruiting services.  Likewise, he does not have any other offers from FBS schools.

What he does possess is great size.  Over the past three years, Kingsbury has placed an emphasis on adding size at wide receiver.  During that time, seven of the ten receivers to sign with Texas Tech have been at least 6-feet-tall with five being over 6-foot-3.

This commitment came on the heels of the decomittment of another 2018 wide receiver. Treveon Johnson, a three-star wide out from Brehnam (TX) who reneged on his pledge to Texas Tech last Friday.  That move likely opened the door for Fulcher to receive an offer from the Red Raiders.

Fuller is a nice athlete that did a bit of everything in high school.  Still, his scant receiving numbers indicate he is far from a polished prospect.

Most of the receptions in his highlight video come on swing passes designed to get the ball into Flucher’s hands quickly and let him use his athleticism to make defenders miss.  He will need to develop his ability to run precise routes before he is ready to contribute in the Big 12.

In addition to Fulcher, Texas Tech has added wider receivers Gabriel Douglas (Denton, TX), Jaylon Robinson (Ft. Worth, TX) and Myron Mitchell (Eldorado ,KS Community College).  The 2018 recruiting class is likely to be small given the limited number of seniors on the current roster so it would be surprising to see another wide receiver added to the fold.
