San Angelo, Texas infielder Brock Martin, the brother of current Texas Tech starting pitcher Davis Martin, has accepted a scholarship offer to Texas Tech for 2018.

Tim Tadlock and the Texas Tech baseball team has returned to a familiar well.  This week, Tadlock received a commitment from San Angelo, Texas (Central High School) infielder Brock Martin, who is the brother of current Red Raider ace Davis Martin.

The younger Martin could find himself in the Red Raider infield behind his big brother in Lubbock.  Brock earned all-state honors at second base in 2017 and will compete for playing time this fall in the annual intersquad Red-Black series.

At the plate, he hit just shy of .500 (.491) and mashed seven long balls.  He drove in 40 runs as he led his team to the second round of the playoffs.

The new Texas Tech commit told the “San Angelo Standard-Times”  that he wanted to play with his big brother.

"“It definitely played a part in my decision. Playing with him my freshman and sophomore year at Central was a big part of my life. He’s just a big part of my life. He’s a great role model and always has been.”"

Plus, the Martin family has strong ties to Texas Tech.  Those ties also helped make Brock’s decision easier.

"“Growing up, I’ve always been a Tech fan,” Brock said. “My dad went there and my grandparents went there. So it’s always been the school I’ve wanted to go to.  I knew if they offered, that would be it, regardless of who else offered. I was really just waiting on Tech.”"

Martin will have some strong competition for playing time next season.  The Red Raiders have seven returning infielders on the roster.

However, two important infielders from 2017’s Big 12 Championship team will not be back in 2018.  Ryan Long has exhausted his eligibility and junior shortstop Orlando Garcia was drafted by and has signed with the San Francisco Giants.

Martin is also the third infielder in the 2017 recruiting class for Texas Tech. He joins Gabriel Holt from Geogia and Kurt Wilson of Arlington, Texas.
