With Texas Tech losing three scholarship receivers this season, it adds another player with serious potential, in JuCo transfer, JoJo Robinson.

In 2014, Jojo Robinson was being heavily recruited by some of the top programs in FBS Division 1, and with good reason. A four-star athlete, Robinson fielded offers from  LSU, UCLA, and USC, but flipped a verbal with Florida State and signed with Arkansas on National Signing Day.

That didn’t exactly work out, but Robinson has a second chance now at Texas Tech.

Like most athletes now, Robinson made his announcement via Twitter:

“After this tough JUCO process, I over came adversity with the help of God first of all and my family, and I appreciate the opportunities.” Said Robinson, “But with a lot of prayer and support in my decision, I am announcing that I will be attending Texas Tech University.”

Robinson graduated high school from Miami Northwestern, and was the No. 145 player on the ESPN300 that year, however, headed into his freshmen year at Arkansas, Robinson was arrested in South Florida.

According to Arkansas News, the Miami native was arrested back in April 2014 on one count of armer robbery, after he was a  “passenger in a car stopped by police following an armed robbery.” The report noted that “Robinson was released on his own recognizance without having to post bail,” and his father, Joseph Robinson, said the charge had been dropped.

“It’s a lesson well learned,” Joseph Robinson said. “One that he needed to learn.”

Unfortunately, Robinson didn’t learn his lesson despite receiving a one game suspension to begin the 2014 season for the incident. Robinson was kicked off the team in October of 2015 after failing to attend class, according to Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema.

As a redshirt freshman at Arkansas, Robinson caught six passes for 53 yards, before transferring to Independence Community College in Kansas last season, however, he sustained an injury and didn’t record any stats.

Robinson is eligible to play right away, and he’ll be given an opportunity to compete and work his way up. As is the case with returning linebacker Dakota Allen, players who experience setbacks deserve opportunities and second chances, but it’s entirely up to them to put in the work.

With what we know about Texas Tech strength and conditioning coach Rusty Whitt’s no-nonsense accountability approach, this might be the perfect environment for Robinson to grow into a responsible and successful player.

Texas Tech opens the season against Eastern Washington on September 3 in Lubbock, TX.
