If Texas Tech was in a quarterback transition, you certainly wouldn’t know it, as the recognition for certain players like wide receiver Keke Coutee keeps coming in.
Texas Tech wide receiver Keke Coutee was named to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List, which was created and sponsored by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation. The Biletnikoff Award is given to the nation’s top receiver. This is the twelfth time over the last 13 seasons where a Texas Tech wide receiver has been named to the list.
Coutee is one of 45 receivers named to the list, which includes James Washington, and Jalen McCleskey of Oklahoma State, and Steven Sims Jr. of Kansas.
Keke Coutee was one of the top wide receivers in the nation last year, and had 55 receptions for 890 yards, and seven touchdowns in 2016. In Big 12 play, Coutee averaged 95.7 yards-per-game, yet had four games with over 100 receiving yards.
Coutee’s most impressive game came against Baylor, where he had a monster night, accounting for 221 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. The best part of that performance, was he only had eight receptions, which gave him a receiving average of 27.6 yards-per-catch.
In a conference known for its high powered offenses, Coutee was No. 8 in the Big 12 last season in receiving yards, and No. 9 in receiving touchdowns.

The junior, and Lufkin, Tex. native was named to the Big 12 Media Preseason Team last week, and took the trip with Texas Tech yesterday to Media Days at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
At Media Days, Coutee showed off a certain swagger Texas Tech’s been trying to establish since Kingsbury was hired. Perhaps its a byproduct of all the pieces coming together for Texas Tech Football this offseason, but it was a very obvious that team morale and confidence is high right now.
Coutee had two touchdown catches from quarterback Nic Shimonek last season against Kansas, so the connection is tested, and should provide some electrifying moments in 2017.
On November 13, The Tallahassee Quarterback Club will name 10 semifinalists selected by the Biletnkioff Award national selection committee, and on November 21, the top three finalists will be named.
The winner of the Biletnikoff Award will be named on December 7 at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN.
