Isaac Likekele, perhaps the top 2018 basketball target for Texas Tech, will announce his college decision Friday afternoon.

Decision day is nearing for one of Texas Tech’s top 2018 basketball targets.  Mansfield, Texas guard Isaac Likekele announced on Twitter Tuesday that he will make his college choice Friday afternoon.

The 6-foot-4, three-star guard is down to three schools, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and UTEP.  After visiting the Cowboys this past weekend, the No. 10 ranked player in Texas and No. 24 point guard in the nation has been to all three campuses in recent weeks.

Texas Tech is considered by many to be the favorite.  Chris Beard and his staff have been forming a relationship with Likekele for months officially throwing their hat in the ring in early April once he was granted his release from Fresno State with which he signed a letter of intent last fall.

The decision to leave Fresno was brought on by the departure of the Bulldogs’ head coach Rodney Terry who took over at UTEP following the 2018 season.  That is believed to be the only reason Likekele has been interested in the Miners but there is still a chance that Terry’s relationship with Likekele could pay dividends for a second time.

The Cowboys are coming off a season that saw them miss the NCAA Tournament but they made national news by being the first team to beat Kansas twice in the regular season.  The Cowboys have a need at point guard this year with only two on the current roster and the prospect of early playing time could be enticing.

Whatever team lands Isaac Likekele will be getting a player that should make an immediate impact.  In leading his Mansfield Timberview Wolves to the 5A state title, he put up 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists per game while earning first-team all-state honors.

Should Texas Tech be the winner of this key recruiting battle, it would help fill the hole at point guard left by the departure of all-American PG Keenen Evans who put up over 17 points per game last year.

Likekele is set to make his decision at 4 pm Friday afternoon.  Until then, three fanbases will be waiting eagerly to find out who has landed their point guard of the future.
