The Texas Tech football 2019 recruiting class is starting to fill up with 16 players already in the mix.  With likely fewer than ten spots remaining in this class, how should Kilff Kingsbury and his staff fill out what is starting to look like a very impressive class?

What a difference two months can make on the recruiting trail.  When June began, Kilff Kingsbury had just two players committed for 2019 but now as August dawns, the Texas Tech recruiting class has risen to No. 4 in the Big 12 and No. 31 in the nation (according to Rivals.com) with sixteen players committed.

A breakdown of the class reveals that the Red Raiders are going to bring in a much more balanced class in 2019 than the one they signed this past cycle.  In 2018, Tech signed only 18 players and of that group, only four were defensive players.

But in the 2019 class, nine of the sixteen players in the current class call the defensive side of the ball home. That group includes three defensive ends (highlighted by 4-star prospects Steven Parker and Gilbert Ibeneme), four defensive backs and two linebackers.

Offensively, Kingsbury has already landed three wide receivers and a true tight end, 6-foot-4, 220-pound Simon Gonzalez who is one of the most talented tight ends in the nation.  And of course, Tech is happy to have quarterback Maverick McIvor from San Angelo on board helping to sure up the most important position on the field.

But there remains plenty of work to be done.  Here are some position groups that Kingsbury and his staff still must address as they try to fill out the 2019 recruiting class.
