Taurean Carter, a three-star defensive end has narrowed his list to four schools and Texas Tech has made the cut.

The Texas Tech football staff continues to put its 2019 recruiting class together and they hope 3-star defensive end Taurean Carter will be part of it.  Thursday, the 3-star Mansfield, Texas product narrowed his college choices to four schools and the Red Raiders made the cut.

The 6-foot-3, 260-pound prospect also included Arkansas, Texas and Michigan State as finalists for his services.  He holds additional offers from Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Houston, Minnesota, Oklahoma State, Purdue and SMU.

Carter has been a productive force thus far in his high school career.  In the past two seasons, he has registered 131 tackles, 14 sacks, 22 tackles for loss while forcing two fumbles and recovering three more.

Texas Tech has to be considered a long shot to land Carter with Arkansas being the overwhelming favorite.  The Hogs have already landed one of Carter’s teammates, defensive tackle Enoch Jackson, who also had Texas Tech as a finalist in his recruitment.  Additionally, they are expected to be heavily in the mix for a third Mansfield Legacy prospect in safety Jalen Catalon and all three Mansfield products have been rumored to be interested in playing together in college.

Texas Tech finds itself squaring off with Arkansas for recruits more frequently now than ever before since the hiring of Chad Morris.  The new Arkansas head coach has strong ties to Texas and specifically the Dallas-Ft. Worth area thanks to his time as head coach at SMU.

Tech has already lost out on two 2019 prospects to Arkansas with Jackson and linebacker Zach Zimos of Richmond, Texas both heading to Fayetteville.  So it would appear that Kliff Kingsbury and his staff is facing an uphill battle with Carter but they will have until October to win him over.  Carter has announced that he intends to announce his decision October 24th, his father’s birthday.

Currently, Texas Tech is in great shape at the defensive end position for the 2019 class.  The Red Raiders have three defensive ends already committed including two 4-star prospects Steven Parker of Dallas and Gilbert Ibeneme of Pearland, and 3-star prospect Tony Bradford Jr. from Houston.
