The Texas Tech football program will air a documentary titled “Beyond Camp” chronicling the 2018 Red Raider fall training camp at 5 p.m. Saturday on Twitter.
Texas Tech football fans craving more access to the 2018 team are about to get their wish. Today at 5 p.m., Texas Tech will air “Beyond Camp”, a documentary about the 2018 fall camp.
This broadcast will be available on Twitter as the Texas Tech athletic department continues to expand its online presence. And if there was ever the perfect year for fans to get an inside look at the program, it would be 2018.
During fall camp, Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury has conducted an unprecedented three-way quarterback competition between junior McLane Carter, sophomore Jett Duffey and true freshman Alan Bowman.
Saturday evening at 5:00, we will have a live broadcast of our documentary chronicling 2018 fall camp, right here on Twitter.

Throughout camp, fan appetites for insight into the quarterback battle has been insatiable as we have treated what little footage the program has released as if it was the Zapruder Film. But aside from one brief clip of the first inter-squad scrimmage, there has been noting for the fans to see.

Hopefully, this documentary will provide insight into the process that Kingsbury and his coaching staff have undertaken as they make this most critical of decisions. While it is highly unlikely that this documentary will officially break any news about who has won the job (by now almost everyone assumes it will be Carter based on speculation from local media members who claim to have inside sources), it may help fans understand what went into the decision.
This documentary will also be an opportunity for fans to get to know some of the new faces on the team, especially on offense where the Red Raiders are replacing as many as five starters from last year.
Given that the documentary is produced in-house by the Texas Tech athletic program, we should not expect it to be as in-depth or gritty as some popular football documentaries like HBO’s “Hard Knocks” or Netflix’ “Last Chance U”.
That means it would be surprising to see the Da’Leon Ward controversy covered. Ward, was erroneously arrested by the Lubbock Police Department earlier this week only to have the charges against him dropped a day later.
Other interesting storylines that could be covered include the addition of defensive back John Bonney, a transfer from Texas, the battle for the starting running back and receiver positions and the continued improvement of the Red Raider defense.
Regardless, it is exciting to see the Texas Tech football program connecting with its fans by providing a behind-the-scenes look at the team in a fresh new way. If nothing else, it will be one more morsel of football to get fans through the final week before kickoff.
