The Texas Tech basketball program will host Terrence Shannon, a top 50 prospect in the class of 2019, for an official visit this weekend.

For the second weekend in a row, Texas Tech basketball head coach Chris Beard will be hosting one of the top recruits in the nation.  Terrence Shannon, a  6-foot-6, 185-pound forward from Chicago, Illinois is scheduled to be in Lubbock this weekend for an official visit.

Averaging 14 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game on the prestigious Nike EYBL league, Shannon has seen his stock rise in recent months.  Earlier this month, Shannon verbally committed to DePaul only to renege on that commitment within the week.

247Sports.com rates Shannon a 4-star prospect and the No. 2 prospect in Illinois.  Meanwhile, Rivals.com has him rated as the No. 46 overall player in the class of 2019.

Long, athletic and versatile, Terrence Shannon seems to fit the mold of a Chris Beard wing player.  The 17-year old has already graduated high school but is planning on playing this season at Woodstock Academy, a predatory school in Connecticut.

Rivals.com basketball analyst Eric Bossi has the following scouting report on Shannon.

"“On top of being young and still maturing, this upcoming prep year will be Shannon’s first ever as a full-time basketball player. Throughout his high school years in Chicago he played football as well, and he starred as a quarterback and wide receiver.”More from Wreck'Em RedTexas Tech football: Red Raider fans need to know about these MountaineersTexas Tech football: Red Raiders land first commit for class of 2025Texas Tech football: Why have the Red Raiders struggled on the road under McGuire?Texas Tech football: Why the Red Raiders can compete for a Big 12 titleTexas Tech football: Plenty of questions remain as conference play arrives"

The competition for such a quickly rising prospect is starting to pick up.  In addition to Texas Tech, Shannon is set to take an official visit to Illinois next weekend and has offers from Virginia Tech, UCONN, Florida State, Louisville, Maryland, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Wake Forest.   247Sports’ crystal ball predictions give Florida State a 50% shot and Illinois a 25% shot to win this key recruiting battle.

Texas Tech currently does not have a 2019 player committed but that is not for a lack of effort on the coaching staff’s part.   Last week, four 2019 prospects were on campus for their official visits.

Included in that group were San Antonio point guard Kevin McCullar, a 4-star prospect who has already signed with the Red Raiders and will enroll after the fall semester.  McCullar is technically a 2018 signee but should be looked at as a 2019 prospect because he plans to redshirt during the 2019 spring semester despite being on campus.

Also taking official visits last week were 4-star guard Jahmius Ramsey (No. 39 overall in the nation), 4-star wing Marcus Watson from Georgia (No. 85 overall) and 4-star power forward Victor Iwuakor (No. 117 overall).  Players will be able to sign letters of intent during the early signing window that runs from November 14-21 so expect for these prospects to make their decisions soon.
