It has been almost a week since the Texas Tech football team beat TCU 17-14 in Ft. Worth last Thursday.  But before we put this game to bed, let’s take a look at the good, the bad and the ugly from this crucial Big 12 win.

Most football teams have a 24-hour rule that allows players to celebrate a win or mull over a loss for just one day after a game.  But while the Texas Tech football team has certainly turned its attention to Kansas, Red Raider fans are still reveling in the in their team’s win over rival TCU.

The Dallas-Ft. Worth area is home to the largest Texas Tech alumni base outside of Lubbock making the annual showdown against the Frogs take on added importance for a huge portion of the fan base.  For the next twelve months, Red Raiders across the state, and especially in the Metroplex, will have bragging rights over their purple-clad friends, family and co-workers.

That win also gave Texas Tech a three-game winning streak over teams from Texas thanks to a victory over Texas to close out the 2017 regular season and this year’s win over Houston.  Add to that Tech’s win over Baylor last year and the Red Raiders currently have a win in the most recent matchup with every Texas school it has played in the past two seasons.

Also, do not discount the significance of the TCU win on the recruiting trail.  Tech and TCU are frequent competitors for the services of top in-state high school players, especially those that call the DFW area home.

Proximity often gives the Frogs a leg up in those battles so being able to have a win in the series can only help Kliff Kingsbury and his staff when the try to woo their top targets.  For those, and many other reasons, beating an in-state rival like TCU often carriers more weight in the fan base than other wins.

That is why last week’s victory will be one that the Red Raider faithful enjoy for the next twelve months.  So let’s not put this game to bed just yet.  Before we turn the page to Kansas, let’s look back at the good, the bad and the ugly from the 17-14 win in Ft. Worth.
