Though the Texas tech football team dropped this week’s game to Iowa State, there were a number of Red Raiders that stepped up in the losing effort.

The Texas Tech football team’s loss to Iowa State on Saturday is gong to be tough for Red Raider fans to swallow.  Despite playing in a tough road environment against a very good Iowa State team, the Red Raiders had opportunities to come away with the win but failed in their attempt to ear their sixth win of the year.

Ultimately, it was the Cyclones that made the big plays in the 4th quarter to seal the win.  However, a number of Red Raiders played very well on Saturday.

The defense had another solid day despite giving up 31 points (ISU also scored on an interception return and a safety).  Both of the Texas Tech safeties, Jah’Shawn Johnson and Vaughnte Dorsey, recorded eight tackles with six of Johnson’s being solo stops.

Joe Wallace was a force in the middle of the defensive line recording four tackles, a sack and a tackle for loss.  His fellow defensive tackle, Broderick Washington was also effective with five talks of his own.

A number of other defenders (Tony Jones, John Bonney, Damarcus Fields and Nick McCann ) also had multiple tackles on the afternoon.  Certainly, the defense played well enough to give the Red Raiders an opportunity to win.

Offensively, Tech had a much greater struggle.  Inside receiver Ja’Deion High and outside receiver T.J. Vasher were two of only a handful of solid contributors.  High pulled down 6 passes for 70 yards while Vasher came away with five receptions for 66 yards.

But in the end, Tech needed more players to step up.  And while the Red Raiders did not have enough playmakers in Ames, the following players played well enough to earn game balls.
