This past weekend, Keith Miller III, a 2020 wide receiver from The Colony, Texas committed to the Texas Tech football program.

Though we are still over a month away from the early signing period for the 2019 Texas Tech football recruiting class, the 2020 class is already starting to take shape.  This past weekend, the Red Raiders added their second verbal commitment to next year’s recruiting class by landing Keith Miller III from The Colony, Texas.

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound product was in Lubbock for the Texas game and before he left town, he committed to Kliff Kingsbury and the Red Raider coaching staff.  Because it is still very early in the 2020 recruiting cycle, Miller boasts only one other offer (Kansas) and has not received a star ranking but that is certainly no indication of the type of player he is.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football  recently called Miller “a national-level prospect” and he will likely be one of the top wide receivers in the nation next season.  So far this season, Miller has caught 31 passes for 697 yards and eight touchdowns as his team readies for the playoffs.

Miller’s size fits in perfectly with the type of wide receiver that has been so successful at Texas Tech in the past handful of seasons.  This year, the Red Raiders have featured two receivers 6-foot-4 or taller in Antoine Wesley and T.J. Vasher.

More from Wreck'Em Red

Wesley leads the nation in receiving yards per game at 134.7 and earlier this week was named a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award.  Meanwhile, Vasher has 42 receptions for 557 yards and seven touchdowns this year despite being slowed by nagging injuries.

What’s more, in the 2018 recruiting class, Kingsbury added a pair of big targets in Myllar Royals from Abilene and Erik Ezukanma of Keller.  Both are over 6-foot-4 and are redshirting this year as Vasher and Wesley have turned into a fantastic duo that rarely comes off the field.

But Wesley could parlay his success this year into an NFL career as soon as next year should he decide to leave school early.  Even if he does return for his senior season, he will be out of eligibility by the time Miller arrives on campus in 2020 meaning there will be an opportunity for Miller to contribute immediately.

Already possessing the body of a Big 12 receiver, Miller weighs more than either Wesley or Vasher.  And he uses that size to his advantage against helpless high school defensive backs to make spectacular catches like the one below.

That play looks similar to some of the highlight reel catches we’ve seen Vasher and Wesley turn in this year and gives us a glimpse into Miller’s insane athletic skill set.  During the “Air Raid” era, Texas Tech has become known as “Wide Receiver U” and there are more Red Raider receivers currently on NFL rosters than any other school.  Perhaps Keith Miller III will be the next star wide receiver in Lubbock.  He certainly looks the part.

Miller’s commitment gives the Red Raiders two commitments for 2020.  Last week, three-star QB Wilson Long from Austin became the first 2020 prospect to join the Red Raider next recruiting class.  Keep checking in with Wreck ’em Red for all the latest in Texas Tech recruiting.
