Texas Tech basketball: Edwards; Culver lead Red Raiders to 6-0
Behind big games from Jarrett Culver and Kyler Edwards, the Texas Tech basketball team moved to 6-0 on the season Saturday with a 93-62 win over Northern Colorado.
Coming off back-to-back wins over USC and Nebraska to claim the Hall of Fame Classic earlier this week, the Texas Tech basketball team did not suffer a letdown in its return to the court. Saturday at United Supermarkets Arena, the Red Raiders moved to 6-0 with a 93-62 win over Northern Colorado thanks to huge games from Jarrett Culver and Kyler Edwards.
Culver, the sophomore from Lubbock had a team-high 20 points to go along with six assists, five rebounds and a steal. It was his third-straight standout performance after scored 18 points Monday against USC and 28 Tuesday against Nebraska on his way to earning Hall of Fame Classic MVP honors.

On its way to a season-high in points, Texas Tech hit 60.7% of its field goal attempts and was especially effective from three-point range hitting 10-16 (62.5%) from deep. Meanwhile, Northern Colorado, which entered the game attempting more shots than any team in the nation from behind the arc was just 4 of 24 from long range.
The Bears had only two players in double-digits, led by senior Jordan Davis’ 26. Freshman Bodie Hume added 11 points but only five other Bears scored. Northern Colorado received only three points from its bench, 48 fewer than Texas Tech.
The Red Raiders, as has been their custom at home this year, jumped out to a comfortable early lead. Edwards poured in nine points before the first media timeout to help Tech claim a 15-5 lead. After that, Northern Colorado would get no closer than seven points shooting just 34.5% from the field and committing 16 turnovers.
Meanwhile, 12 of the 13 Red Raiders to play registered a point. Off the bench, JUCO transfer Deshawn Corprew added 13 points and senior Brandone Francis chipped in 11.
By handling its business against a mid-major opponent after earning national notoriety for beating the Trojans and Huskers, Texas Tech showed that it is a team mature enough to handle success. Now, at 6-0, there is a good chance that the Red Raiders could find themselves in the national polls when the newest rankings are released.
Tech will have to wait a full week before it returns to the court to take on Memphis next Saturday in Miami, Florida. That will be the next test for a basketball team that so far, has handled its business about as well as anyone could have asked.
