QB Brendon Lewis – Melissa, TX

The Red Raiders already have a QB committed in the class of 2020, 3-star prospect Wilson Long from Austin.  But he was offered by the Kingsbury regime and is not likely to end up a Red Raider.  Instead, keep an eye on 4-star QB Brendon Lewis from Melissa, TX just outside the DFW Metroplex.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound prospect is ranked the No. 7 dual-threat QB in the nation and the No. 31 overall player in Texas.  He holds offers from Tech, TCU, Nebraska, Mississippi State, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Syracuse, Florida State and others.

Last year, he threw for 2,524 yards and 34 touchdowns with just three interceptions while completing 59.1% of his passes.  He averaged 15.9 yards per completion while also running for 967 yards.

Tech will have tremendous competition for Lewis’ services from Big 12 rival TCU, which offered him a scholarship last summer and had nearly an eight month head start over the new Tech coaches on building a relationship with him.  Florida State could also be a factor as they have recently hired former Houston offensive coordinator Kendal Briles to run their offense.  Briles has strong recruiting ties to the DFW area thanks to his time in Houston and in Waco where he was OC under his father Art Briles.

Tech has actually offered a more highly-rated Texas QB, Malik Hornsby, the No. 2 dual-threat QB in the nation but he does not seem to be a realistic possibility.  With offers from Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M, Auburn and Georgia, Hornsby likely is a fish too big for Tech to reel in.

But Lewis is far from a slouch.  In fact, he would be one of the highest-rated QB’s to ever sign with Texas Tech and would be a huge get for Wells.
