January 20, 2007: Texas Tech 69 – Kansas 64

Fortunately, it would not take long before Tech was able to notch another win over KU.  Just two years later, Kansas came to Lubbock and was upset once again, and it was a familiar face doing damage.

Junior Darryl Dora scored 19 points off the bench draining three 3-pointers to secure his reputation among Red Raider fans as the “Kansas Killer”.  Meanwhile, guard Jay Jackson was huge with 15 points including the go-ahead bucket to break a 62-62 tie with just one minute to play.

Jackson’s heroics helped the Red Raiders to keep from blowing a double-digit second half lead.  KU mounted a furious 13-1 rally in the final minutes of the second half to draw even before Jackson made his game-winning shot in the paint.

KU had a chance to tie the game with just 20 seconds to play but their 3-point shot was off the mark and Tech corralled the rebound.  Tech would finish that season 21-13 and 9-7 in the Big 12, good for 5th place.

Though the Red Raiders would qualify for the NCAA Tournament as a No. 10 seed, they would drop their first round game to Boston College.  However, their win over Kansas provided a signature win in what would prove to be the final full season of Bob Knight’s career.
