Texas Tech basketball wins vs. KU have been rare but exciting
January 2, 2018: Texas Tech 85 – Kansas 73
The only time Tech has managed to come away with a win over Kansas in the Sunflower State was last year when the Red Raiders jumped out to an early lead and kept KU at bay in a 12-point win in Allen Fieldhouse.

Tech received a balanced scoring effort led by Keenan Evans’ 15 points and an unexpected 12 points each from Norense Odiase and Justin Gray. And just like in the 2009 win, Tech never trailed, building a 16-point first half lead to take the KU crowd out of the game.
This win signaled the arrival of Chris Beard onto the national scene as an up-and-comer in the coaching industry. It also gave Tech a 2-0 start in Big 12 play for the first time in a decade and snapped a 16-game losing streak to KU.
The home team was just 6-26 from 3-point range as a team and 0-12 in the second half. Tech also dominated in hustle plays beating KU 15-4 in second-chance points and 26-8 in points off of turnovers.
Unfortunately, KU would avenge this loss in Lubbock with a 74-72 win to help the Jayhawks edge out another Big 12 regular season title. But by beating Kansas in Lawrence, Tech signaled their arrival as a legitimate Big 12 contender. Hopefully this year, that leads to a conference title.
