25 points, 6 rebounds vs. Duke in 2018

The night the nation found out about Jarrett Culver, he poured in 25 points and pulled down six points against No. 2 Duke in Madison Square Garden in a 69-58 loss.  In this key December showdown, Culver outperformed the Blue Devils’ talented freshmen trio of Zion Williamson, R.J. Barrett and Cam Reddish, all of whom will hear their name called in the first round tonight.

Culver was a one-man offense for his team hitting 9-21 shots from the floor and 4-9 from behind the arc.  That is not a terribly efficient stat line but considering that no other Red Raider scored more than seven points, it is easy to see how much of a burden Culver shouldered.  And a huge number of his misses came in the final minutes as he began to hoist rushed 3’s in an attempt to make up ground on the scoreboard.

This was a game played in the most famous arena in the world and in front of a number of NBA stars, including Philadelphia 76ers forward Jimmy Butler.  And Culver put on a show.

Entering the season, most projected Culver to be a lock to go in the first round of this year’s draft but he began the season as a top-20 pick.  However, after showing out against the marquee team in the nation and in the sport’s most hallowed arena, Culver put on a performance that helped his draft stock skyrocket while also showing once again that his team was capable of playing with anyone.
