LT Terence Steele
New Texas Tech offensive line coach Steve Farmer has made a crucial change to his group. He has taken the two multi-year starting tackles, Terence Steele and Travis Bruffy, and flipped them.
That is because Farmer has said he believes that Steele has all the tools to be one of the nation’s best left tackles where he will be tasked with the all-important job of protecting the blind side of QB Alan Bowman. If Farmer is right and Steele is as good as his position coach suggests, he could be an All-Big 12 caliber player.
The Cibolo, Texas native started 12 games at left tackle in 2016 before moving to right tackle as a sophomore. Last year, he was given honorable mention all-conference honors but he has all the tools needed to be dominant.
At 6-foot-6, 320-pounds, Steele should get a look from NFL teams next spring. In fact, this year is a true job audition for him because some believe that with a solid performance in 2019, he could be a top-100 pick in 2020.
Should Steele remain at left tackle, the caliber of pass rushers he will face on a weekly basis figures to improve significantly. There was a reason he initially moved from left to right tackle prior to his sophomore year and he excelled at RT where he was more than comfortable.
At left tackle, his agility and footwork will be tested by some of the top rushers on the schedule. If he is able to stand up to the challenge of playing on the other end of the line and the Red Raider offense puts up the type of numbers we’ve come to expect, Terence Steele could very well find himself on the All-Big12 team at season’s end.
