DE LB Moore from Amarillo

In recent years, Amarillo has not been kind to Texas Tech on the recruiting trail.  For instance, in this year’s class, RB King Doerue from Tascosa High School spurned the Red Raiders to sign with Purdue.

Hopefully, Tech will have better luck with another T.H.S. product, LB Moore.  The 6-foot-3, 220-pound edge rusher is rated a 3-star defensive end by 247Sports.

The No. 127 player in Texas and the No. weak-side DE in the nation for 2020 holds offers from a relatively small group of schools considering his rather lofty rating.  Tech, Kansas, Purdue, and Baylor are the only Power 5 offers he holds at this point.  But other programs, such as Texas, are showing interest and could offer at any moment.

Last year, Moore made 85 tackles while putting up six sacks.  He is the type of pass-rusher that could thrive in new defensive coordinator Keith Patterson’s 3-3-5 scheme, which will bring an end/outside linebacker off the edge to wreak havoc.

Patterson has a reputation for producing top pass-rushers, which could appeal to Moore and lure him to Lubbock.  Additionally, this is the type of player that Tech does not have a plethora of right now, which could also mean a bit of early playing time.

In the 2019 recruiting cycle, the Red Raiders went all-in on 4-star Dallas DE Stephen Parker but he wound up signing with Kansas and former Red Raider receivers coach Emmett Jones after being a long-time Texas Tech recruit.  Moore is a similar type of player who could be a big addition to the 2020 class.  Hopefully, this is an Amarillo prospect that will not get away from the Red Raiders.
