Texas Tech basketball offers elite 2021 PG Cam Hayes
This week, the Texas Tech basketball program extended an offer Cam Hays, one of the country’s top high school point guards.
The Texas Tech basketball continues to swing for the fences on the recruiting trail as Chris Beard looks to capitalize on the momentum of this season’s run to the national title game. Already having targeted a number of the highest-rated recruits in the country, this week Tech extended an offer to Cam Hayes, a 4-star point guard from Greensboro, NC.
Rated by the 247Sports composite rankings as the No. 4 PG in the class of 2021 and the No. 30 player in his class, the 6-foot-1, 160-pound prospect has offers from a host of top programs. In addition to Tech, he has offers from Florida St., Virginia, Clemson, Tennessee, N.C. State, Louisville, Maryland, and Wake Forest. 247Sports is reporting that he also has official visits set up with the Volunteers, Wolfpack, and Seminoles later this fall.
Last season, Hayes averaged 9.8 points per game for the Greensboro Day Bengals. As a sophomore, he actually performed a bit better averaging 11.4 points.
You can check out a few highlights of his play at the prestigious EYBL event this summer as well as his work at the NBA top 100 camp and see why he is so highly sought after. Perhaps his greatest offensive skill is his mid-range pull-up jumper, something that most high school players often do not have because they can get by on their athleticism. He can hit that jumper when pulling up off of either hand.
He is also adept at finding teammates, something that is essential for a point guard. Though his scoring numbers are somewhat underwhelming, he makes up for it because of the way he creates opportunities for others.
Another interesting aspect of Hayes’ recruitment is the fact that many believe he could potentially reclassify and become part of the 2020 class, which could expedite his commitment timeline. That would be interesting as it pertains to Texas Tech because next year’s Red Raider class is expected to be rather small.

With only two seniors on the current roster, the Red Raiders figure to be rather selective when trying to build their next recruiting class. Even if the Red Raiders see a player or two depart unexpectedly as is so common these days in the college basketball world, Beard’s next signing class will be much smaller than the seven players he signed in 2019’s class.
Already in the class of 2020, Tech has extended offers to 26 players. Of that group, 14 are top-100 players nationally and four are point guards.
After this season, Tech is guaranteed to lose only senior guard/forward Chris Clarke and forward T.J. Holyfield. That will leave the Red Raider backcourt still rather crowded with veterans like Davide Moretti and Kyler Edwards still with eligibility remaining and newcomers like 2019 signees Jahmius Ramsey, Clarence Nadolny as well as current redshirt freshman Kevin McCullar Jr. also competing for minutes.
The yearly roster shuffling and reconstruction that Chris Beard has turned into an art form has become the next best sport for Red Raider basketball fans to watch aside from the actual games. That’s because he continues to stock the roster with some of the most talented prospects we have seen come to Lubbock and in Cam Hayes, Beard is looking to bring one of the best point guards in the nation into the mix.
