This roster is light on all-time greats and heavy on JUCO talent
Aside from the obvious lack of quality and depth at the QB position, what stands out most about the out of state roster is that it features tons of JUCO talent. That is not surprising given that the majority of the top JUCO football programs in the nation are found outside of Texas.

In fact, with eight former JUCO signees on the roster, this team has more JUCO players than all the rest of the all-time teams combined. That means that a huge number of these players had brief careers in Lubbock.
That’s also why this roster is light on all-time greats. Watts is the only current member of this team in the Texas Tech Hall of Fame but players like Welker, Filani, Reed, and Slay might find their way there in time.
What also makes this roster unique is that the defense would be considered its strength. Without true stars at either QB or running back, the out of state team lacks the type of quality in the backfield that the other all-time teams enjoy.
That’s why this team would be the worst of the all-time squads that we’ve put together. But that does not mean that this roster is as weak as most might assume given how heavily focused Texas Tech has traditionally been on recruiting Texas talent. But if Matt Wells continues to build his roster around in-state talent as heavily as he has in the class of 2020, there might not be too many changes to this team in the near future.
