The Texas Tech football program has picked up a verbal commitment from Myles Price, an explosive athlete from The Colony, Texas.

Under head coach Matt Wells and offensive coordinator David Yost, the Texas Tech football team is all about speed on the offensive side of the ball.  And Tuesday, the Red Raiders picked up a verbal commitment from a player capable of bringing tons of that element to the field.

Myles Price, a running back from The Colony, Texas made public his decision to join the program on Twitter after being one of the coaching staff’s top targets for the last few months.  In June, Price visited Lubbock just a week after committing to Big 12 rival Oklahoma State.  During that visit, he decomitted from the Cowboys leading many to believe that he was leaning towards joining Wells and Yost at Tech. Now, those suspicions have been confirmed.

Rated the No. 39 athlete in the nation and the No. 94 overall player in Texas by 247Sports.com’s composite rankings, the 5-foot-8, 161-pounder is expected to play inside receiver for the Red Raiders.  In addition to Tech and Oklahoma State, he holds offers from such schools as Colorado, Boise State, Arizona State, Boston College, Colorado State, Houston, Illinois, Kansas State, Ole Miss, Purdue, TCU, Washington, and Washington State.

According to his 247Sports profile, Price has racked up 1,295 rushing yards and 971 receiving yards in the last two seasons combined.  During that time, he found the endzone on 32 occasions while also racking up 26 tackles and three interceptions as a defensive back.

Some fans may remember the saga involving Price and Oklahoma State from this summer.  It was reported that the Cowboys pulled their offer once Price took his official visit to Lubbock, something that is not against the NCAA rules but a course of action that many people feel is poor form.

Now that his commitment to the Red Raiders is out in the open, he becomes the first player to jump on the Red Raiders’ 2020 bandwagon in over a month.  In early August, Philip Blidi a 3-star defensive end from Portales, N.M. gave his commitment to the Red Raiders ending what was a busy summer that saw 13 players decide to join Wells and company in Lubbock.

The 2020 class now sits at 16 players.  247Sports has it as the No. 5 class in the conference and No. 40 in the nation.  That is a beautiful sight for Red Raider fans who saw Tech’s class at the bottom of the conference standings as recently as June.

Currently, Texas, OU, Iowa State, and Kansas are the only conference teams with more highly-regarded classes.  And given that Tech will likely add up to eight more players in this recruiting cycle, it is possible to envision the Red Raiders’ haul eventually surpassing KU, which already has 26 commits and which also has a lower average rating per player.

Nine of the Red Raiders’ current commits play on the offensive side of the ball.  Price brings the total number of receivers among that group to four.  That’s quite a bit of firepower for an offense that doesn’t have any senior receivers playing significant roles this year other than tight end Donta Thompson.

Therefore, Price will have his work cut out for him if he wants to get on the field early in his career.  But being as his game seems built around Yosts’s most valued trait, speed, it is easy to picture this versatile athlete eventually becoming a key contributor for the Red Raiders.
