Jett Duffey is a better QB than Austin Kendall

Though third-string QB Jett Duffey has been serviceable as the starter this season, the fact remains that in every game he’s started, Tech has had a deficit at the QB position with the exception of the awful showing of OSU’s Spencer Sanders who had five turnovers against the Red Raiders.

This week, Tech will finally enter a game believing it has an advantage at the QB position.  That’s because WVU’s Austin Kendall has struggled this year.

Starting every game thus far, the transfer from Oklahoma has completed just 61.7% of his passes while having a TD: INT ratio of 3:2 (12 touchdowns and 8 picks). Meanwhile, Duffey has completed 68.2% of his passes and thrown nine touchdowns with just two picks.   In addition, Duffey is averaging 32.4 more yards per game through the air than Kendall with both averaging roughly the same number of passes each week.

We must keep in mind though that outside of his four-interception game against Texas, he’s thrown just one interception in Big 12 play.  That came last week at Baylor.

Still, in conference play, he’s 9th in the league in passing yards and last in pass efficiency.  If this is a QB that can carve up the Red Raider secondary like other QBs in recent weeks have, then that will be the most damning of signs for Keith Patterson’s defense.  But if Tech can finally have the advantage in QB again, there’s a good chance that the Red Raiders can end their losing streak.
