5-foot-9, 212-pound RB Tahj Brooks

Football takes a toll on running backs like no other position.  Playing the role of human bowling balls, these players absorb more punishment than those at any other position group.

That’s why college programs have to make certain to bring in quality RBs in every recruiting class, even teams that operate out of the spread and throw the ball more than they run it.  But because the 2019 class did not have a RB in it, Tech has been playing with fire at that position all year.

Now, the Red Raiders are at tremendous risk of being burned.  With Ta’Zhawn Henry and SaRodorick Thompson both essentially playing on one leg this past Saturday and grad transfer Armand Shyne our for the year, Tech ran the ball only nine times with its running backs against TCU.

It would be a blessing to be able to insert Manor, TX running back Tahj Brooks into the lineup for at least a few snaps.  Already with the build of a college back, the powerful 3-star prospect could have seen some snaps this year had he been on campus.

He’s run for a total of 2,112 yards and 24 touchdowns in his 4-year career.  That includes 706 this year in only six games according to MaxPreps.com.  That’s an average of 7.8 yards per carry.   As a junior, he eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark while compiling 21 touchdowns.

Beating out TCU for Brooks was a huge win for Wells and Co.  Now, they need him to be a complete three-down back at the next level to give them another player in the mold of SaRodorick Thompson.   He may have a bit more burst than Thompson as well, which will add some juice to the offense as well.

Right now, Brooks is the only RB in this class but don’t be surprised to see Tech bring in another grad transfer or a JUCO RB to prevent against a repeat of this year’s depth issues.  But its too bad that Brooks has to wait nine months to help the Red Raiders because they could certainly use him as soon as this Saturday.
