Texas Tech basketball: Why the Red Raiders lost to Iowa
3-point shooting disparity
33-12. That’s how large the disparity between Iowa and Tech was in regards to 3-point scoring. It’s going to be next to impossible to win a game that way.
It was the first half where Iowa was especially on fire from deep as they built their largest lead of the game at 36-21. Thanks to Joe Weiskamp and Jordan Bohannon, the Hawkeyes nailed five of their first six attempts from deep on their way to 7 makes in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Meanwhile, Tech missed six-straight 3s to open the game. In all, the Red Raiders managed to knock down only 4 of their 23 looks from distance. In fact, Davide Moretti was the only player with multiple 3s but he too struggled to the tune of 2-7 from downtown.
"“I think we’re shooting way too many 3-point shots,” Beard said. “We got to figure out who we are offensively. We gotta find our identity.”"
Thus far, the Red Raiders are shooting 19.3 shots per game from behind the arc. That’s over three more than last year’s team hoisted on a nightly basis and it’s something that isn’t what this roster is built to do, especially when those bombs aren’t finding their target as was the case Thursday.
