Texas Tech football all-decade team: The linebackers
Honorable mention
Just missing the cut are some linebackers that would have a place on any Red Raider team. We begin with one who is yet to complete his Red Raider career, Riko Jeffers.
The Garland, Texas native is set to enter his junior season with 166 career tackles and five sacks. This year, he had a career-high 76 stops with three sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss.
Another player worth mentioning is Micah Awe. From 2012-15 he racked up 263 tackles, including 126 as a senior.
His teammate, Sam Eguavoen, had a similar career in regard to stats. From 2011-2014, he came up with 225 tackles. This year, he has amassed 22 tackles and 3.5 sacks for the Miami Dolphins.
We mustn’t forget Terrance Bullitt either. From 2010-13, he registered 135 tackles in a career that was frequently interrupted by injury. Playing a type of hybrid LB/safety position, he would have been a perfect fit in the Red Raiders’ current defensive scheme at the spur position.
While all four of these players made significant contributions to the Red Raiders, they didn’t quite make the cut for our all-decade team. Here are our picks for the best linebackers to wear the Scarlet and Black this decade, starting with a JUCO transfer who had a monster of a senior season.
