This week, the Texas Tech basketball program offered a scholarship to Reggie Bass, a 6-foot-3 guard from Indiana.

Though we are about to ring in 2020, the Texas Tech basketball program already has its eyes on 2022, at least in terms of recruiting.  That’s because, on Christmas Day 6-foot-3 guard Reggie Bass from Muncey, Indiana announced on Twitter that he had received an offer from the Red Raiders.

It’s still too early for the national scouting services to have their player rankings out but any thought that Beard would target this early any player that isn’t at least a top 100 caliber of talent in his class is laughable.  Those are the waters Tech is swimming in these days.

The lefty registered 12.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game as a freshman to earn honorable-mention freshman All-American honors by MaxPreps.  Now, he’s transferred to Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Tennessee where he will get more national exposure playing against some of the top competition in the high school ranks.  Hamilton Heights began the season ranked in the top 25 in the country according to some sites.

Thus, expect his recruitment to gain significant steam.  Of course, he is already on the radar of his home-state program, the Indiana Hoosiers.

Now, he is on the verge of becoming a nation-wide target.  And Tech is hoping that being in on him early will pay off in the long run.

He made a name for himself as just a freshman in Indiana where basketball is king.  Now, he’s on the bigger stage of the ever-evolving national prep school scene.

But being in the spotlight is nothing new to this prospect.  After all, he was turning heads as a 7th-grader.

Believe it or not friends, we are at a place in our sports society where player recruitment has begun before most players are even shaving.  That’s where websites such as Future150.com find players they believe will be the next high school stars.  In 2017, Eric Hampford of that site was impressed when he saw Bass in person.

"“When the latest Future150 Class of 2022 National Rankings dropped this week, Indiana prospect Reggie Bass landed at #44 in the country as a 4-star prospect,” he wrote.  “Well, after seeing him this week at AAU Nationals, he proved that ranking to be way too low. In a huge game against a powerful Hilltopper Heat team, he put on a show, leading his team to a big win in pool play. His offensive game is something to behold, as the 6’2″ shooting guard is one of the most polished prospects nationwide. Expect a huge jump for him when the next rankings update occurs in August.”"

Now still just a sophomore, Bass is about to be in even more of the public eye as colleges across the nation come calling.  It appears that Texas Tech is among the first wave to start building a relationship with this rising guard but they certainly won’t be the last.
