With 2019 drawing to a close, let’s look back at the top 10 moments from a truly unforgettable calendar year for Texas Tech.

If it is true that how you finish is what matters, the Texas Tech athletic department has done its best to make us look back fondly on this decade.  That’s because the 2019 calendar year was the best in this history of the university.

In fact, for the three main Red Raider revenue sports, football, basketball, and baseball, it will be easy to remember what happened in 2019.  That’s because each program made some level of history either on or off the field.

Of course, the football program welcomed in a new coaching staff, which makes the 4-8 season that we just fought through one that we will remember, even if we don’t necessarily want to.  We will either look back on it as the year that Tech’s resurgence began with a season in which the groundwork for the Matt Wells rebuild was laid or the year that the program took an even greater turn for the worse as yet another Kirby Hocutt head football coaching hire went awry.

In baseball, the Red Raiders got to Omaha for the fourth time and finished as one of the last four teams standing for the first time ever.  It was also the team’s second-straight appearance in the College World Series, the first time the Red Raiders have been to the game’s premier event in consecutive seasons.

But more than anything, we will remember the men’s basketball team and their run to the national title game.  In addition, the Red Raiders captured their first Big 12 regular-season title (shared with Kansas State) in program history.

Meanwhile, some of the other sports on campus made noise as well.  Of course, the men’s outdoor track team took home the first National Title in Red Raider history for a men’s program.

While far from title contention, the Lady Raider basketball team made huge strides in year two of the Marlen Stallings era finishing the 2019 portion of the current season 11-0.  That’s a place the program has not been in a decade.

Every year is unique but it will be hard to top the ride that 2019 sent us on.  It was full of highs and a few frustrating lows but it was unforgettable.  Let’s look back on the top 10 moments of 2019 for Texas Tech.
